The roller is designed for the even distribution of abrasive compound and for pressing abrasive particles into the working surface of a lapping plate.

Charging abrasive compound into a lapping plate is the process of saturating the plate surface with abrasive particles and distributing them evenly.

During charging, abrasive particles are not simply applied onto the surface β€” they are rubbed and pressed into the working surface of the plate. This secures the particles in place and improves the efficiency of the lapping process.

Proper charging solves several important tasks:

Uniform Abrasiveness

The abrasive is distributed evenly, without clumps or gaps. This ensures consistent bevel finishing along the entire edge without random deep scratches caused by excess compound buildup.

Abrasive Savings

When compound is simply spread onto the surface, most of the diamond compound transfers to the opposite bevel during the first strokes and no longer participates in the process. Abrasive particles pressed into the surface work longer and more efficiently.

Prevention of Abrasive β€œFloating”

If compound is applied without charging, it behaves like a suspension β€” particles move freely and scratches may form unpredictably. Abrasive particles embedded into the surface provide better control during metal processing.

Improved Lapping Plate Efficiency

A charged lapping plate works longer and more consistently without repeated compound application, since the abrasive particles remain fixed in the surface after the first few strokes.

Charging Process

1. Application

Apply a small amount of abrasive compound onto a clean and dry lapping plate surface.

2. Distribution

Spread the compound evenly across the working surface.

3. Charging (Pressing Abrasive Particles Into the Surface)

This is the most important stage. Roll the charging roller across the entire surface with light pressure to literally press the abrasive particles into the structure of the lapping plate.

Any excess compound that does not become embedded should be removed with a soft cloth.

Features of the Charging Roller

Ease of Use

Bearings on the roller axle ensure smooth and even rotation during operation. Side handles provide comfortable control over movement direction and charging pressure.

Quick and Simple Roller Replacement

The roller can be installed or replaced without the use of screwdrivers or additional tools.

Compact Size

The compact dimensions make the roller easy to store. It takes minimal space both on a workbench and in your sharpening accessory storage area.

Specifications:

  • Size (length with handles): 92 mm
  • Roller diameter: 25 mm
  • Roller width: 30 mm
  • Weight: 100 g

Attention!

Avoid contaminating the charging roller with foreign debris or abrasive particles from coarser compounds. Once a compound has been applied to the roller, it is not recommended to use it with compounds of other types or grit sizes.
